Promotional Information

Myers is clearly an expert on the birds of Borneo, and she has gathered a lot of information together. Birds of Borneo offers sound scholarship, solid coverage of subspecies, concise general range and status descriptions, fine treatment of habitat and behavior, and good illustrations. I'm delighted at its publication and look forward to using it in the field. -- Rosa Ann Rowlett, Field Guides Inc.

About the Author

Susan Myers is an experienced birder and naturalist based in Melbourne, Australia. She has led tours throughout Asia for Victor Emanuel Nature Tours for more than fifteen years.

"For at least a decade, this region has desperately needed a new field guide, and this one does Susan Myers and the region proud... The result is a compact and handy 5.8 x 8.3-inch book of 272 pages that easily fits the moniker 'field guide.' ... A particularly pleasing aspect of this book is its acceptance of a taxonomy in line with the prevailing Phylogenetic Species Concept (PSC), which is the philosophical concept driving much of the splitting we see in modern ornithology and birding today... The PSC outlook of this book represents a marvelous leap forward! ... Quite simply, the book is a must-have for anyone with an interest in Asian birds, or anyone heading to the lands of the Sea Dayaks and the White Rajahs."--Keith Barnes, Birding "The first full field guide to cover the astonishing, ecologically important island of Borneo. With nearly 1,600 color illustrations covering over 630 species, this is the perfect all-inclusive field guide for birders wishing to visit this birding paradise." "At last, ornithologists and birdwatchers in Borneo have a complete and accurate guide to birds that they can fit in their pockets. For 30 years, folks have worked to this end, and it is extremely gratifying to have reached it... The guide's author, Susan Myers, has led Victor Emmanuel Nature Tours in eastern Asia for more than 15 years. Thus, she has been an integral part of the ecotourism phenomenon. She combines great experience in finding and identifying birds in Borneo with a grand perspective of Asian birds as a whole. The result of these congruent forces is a truly outstanding field guide. It is small, has extensive color illustrations of all the birds, a complete set of maps, and all the information needed on plumage, distribution, habitat, elevation, and behavior to sort out the species. It really is excellent... By virtue of its simplicity and thoroughness, this is an outstanding field guide. I really cannot wait to take it into the forest and give it a field test. No doubt it will hold up well."--Frederick H. Sheldon, Wilson Journal of Ornithology "This volume continues Princeton's tradition of publishing high quality bird field guides for all parts of the world."--Dan Kunkle, Wildlife Activist "This up-to-date guide identifies and details more than 620 bird species by key characteristics and habitat information. It also includes all recently split species, and provides full coverage of the Bornean endemics and distinctive races when they differ from their counterparts on neighboring islands or in mainland Southeast Asia."--OSNA Birds "[T]his book is still the only one to illustrate all the birds of Sumatra, Java, and Bali and must be used by any serious birding visiting these islands."--Soleglad, Bali Guide blog "This is a great buy for the travelling birder and it will encourage people to take one of the many tours now being offered. Locals will also find it useful as, like many of the new Princeton guides, it is compact and light and easy to carry over difficult terrain."--Roy John, Canadian Field Naturalist "This field guide is a nice size for taking out into the field while you are birding and gives enough information regarding identification, abundance and ranges that it should prove valuable if you are planning on birding in Borneo and the plates should make it interesting enough for any birder to enjoy."--Drew and Alex Lamoreaux, Nemesis Bird
