Contrary to popular belief, there is no research that supports the current mainstream view that babies should be weaned by being spoon-fed purees. Self-feeding allows babies to use their natural abilities to explore taste, texture, color and smell. It encourages independence and confidence by allowing them to experiment with foods at their own pace and helps to develop hand-eye coordination and chewing."Baby-led Weaning" is a practical and authoritative guide to introducing solid food, enabling your child to grow up a happy and confident eater. It shows parents why baby-led weaning makes sense and gives them the confidence to trust their baby's natural skills and instincts. With practical tips for getting started and the low-down on what to expect, "Baby-led Weaning" explodes the myth that babies need to be spoon-fed and shows why self-feeding from the start is the healthiest way for your child to develop. Your baby is allowed to decide how much he wants to eat, how to eat it and to experiment with everything at his own pace. Baby-led weaning is a common-sense, safe, easy and enjoyable approach to feeding your baby. No more purees and weaning spoons, and no more mealtime battles. Simply let your baby feed himself healthy family food.

Reviews

"It sounds like common sense: after all, would you want to be strapped into a high chair and force-fed spoon after spoon of bland vegetables? It's surely much more exciting to be able to exercise a bit of control over your diet" * Guardian * "could radically simplify infant feeding" * Daily Telegraph * "[Baby-led weaning] makes life so much easier" * The Times * "I see many happy children, who choose their own food independently and eat at their own pace" * Stefan Kleintjes, paediatric dietitian * "the benefits are great" * Independent *

This book was a life saver when my baby reached 8 months & was still refusing to be spoon fed (she would grab the spoon with both hands & we would spend the meal time wrestling with the spoon, food going everywhere but not much going down) Everyone elses baby was 'loving' purees & I was getting advice to stick with it and "maybe try cutting back on her milk feeds" (which didn't seem right to me)

The information in this book has allowed me to relax and let my little girl take control for herself and she loves it! This approach just seems to 'fit' better with our family, I don't feel guilty for starving her in order to trick her into eating purees. It's also meant our entire family is now eating a more healthy & nutritious diet.

The book is well writen and has an extensive contents list which enables the book to easily be used as a reference - or in our case to quickly skip to the 'getting started' section as soon as it arrived. I would recommend this book to everyone with babies who are coming up to the "solids" stage, I wish I'd read it earlier..

You can find a lot of this information on the internet, but it's really handy to have a comprehensive guide all in one place. This is the second baby I've used a version of baby-led weaning with, and I wish I had read this before starting weaning with the first! I can't recommend baby-led weaning enough, and this book is a very useful guide.

Great guide to baby-led weaning, much more in-depth and informative than anything I could find on the internet.

This book is good to give you ideas on how to let your child eat proper food instead of sticking to baby food. Makes your life so much easier as they eat what you eat so much faster.

Baby led weaning is refreshing way to look at the struggle that can be feeding an infant! My baby is now 8 months old and loves to eat food himself, he started at 7 months and really enjoying trying new foods. The time I save not having to puree everything is also a winner.

This book is easy to read and understand, some recipes would be great but I see they've just put out a cookbook. Fantastic!
