John A. Hostetler has been a key interpreter for the Amish. Steven M. Nolt is professor history at Goshen (Ind.) College. He is the author or coauthor of eight other books, including Mennonites, Amish and the American Civil War (2007) and A History of the Amish (2003). He is also a coauthor of the forthcoming North America volume in the Global Mennonite History Project.
"The Amish have always attracted popular interest because of their different dress and manner of living. Hostetler, born and reared among them, writes with authority about the Amish, explaining the reasons behind their customs and describing much of their way of life."-- "Reviews"
