Photographer Arno Gasteiger, born in Austria, moved to New Zealand in 1988 and became New Zealand Geographic magazine's primary photographer. Over the last 20 years he has specialised in location photography for commercial and editorial clients. Gasteiger is the co-author of seven books, one of which, Central, won the illustrative category of the 2004 Montana New Zealand Book Awards. His work is widely exhibited in New Zealand, the USA, Australia, Germany and France. Author Laurence Fearnley has written eight novels. Her latest book,The Hut Builder, won the 2011 New Zealand Post Book Award for Fiction. Fearnley has a love of open spaces and counts the Mackenzie Basin, Central Otago and Fiordland as her favourite parts of New Zealand. She has written three novels set in the South Island, Butler's Ringlet, Edwin and Matilda and The Hut Builder.
