Over ten series, QI has built a reputation as the best-loved and most intelligent panel quiz show on television by amazing, amusing and enlightening its audience with the quality of its research. At the core of its appeal is the astonishing fact - the short memorable unit of information that makes you see the world differently. Everybody remembers where they were when they first learnt that kangaroos have three vaginas, that humans share more than half their DNA with bananas and that the tallest mountain on earth isn't Mount Everest. The best QI facts up-end our sense of the order of things and remind us that the universe is a bigger, stranger place than we imagine. This year, QI celebrates ten years. To mark the occasion we have decided to gather together the very best facts we have unearthed in that time: QI's greatest hits, if you like.

Great fun, if ultimately a tad exhausting, so best taken in small doses. Recommended for Qi fans suffering between-season withdrawal symptoms, and who prefer an actual book to the (also very therapeutic) QI iPhone/iPad app.

Review by Betty Boyd

I recommend that this book be read aloud between a minimum number of two people so that they can comment on the stated "facts.". This is one of those rare books that can be read at random. Simply open the book at any page and you will find an interesting statement of fact that may be debated, for example: "in 1672 the Dutch killed and ate their prime minister" or "trousers are responsible for twice as many accidents as chain saws." 1227 Facts to Blow Your Socks Off is not only a must read but is also a must buy for your dining-room table chat.
