About the Author

Elizabeth Maynard Schaefer, PhD, is a science journalist, author, poet, memoirist, creative writing instructor, and someone who has suffered from bipolar depression. With a PhD in biology, she combines her interests in writing and mental health in a course for people with mood disorders at Stanford University's psychiatry department. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
