- Old Crow Medicine started out as a band of retro-minded worshippers of old-timey folk and country, who crafted a modern version of the old-school string-band sounds they loved. With some help from producer Don Was, TENNESSEE PUSHER finds the group expanding its sound to encompass a much broader range of influences, ending up at a strongly country/folk-inflected brand of Americana that's as close to modern roots rock as it is to something off of an Alan Lomax field recording.
Professional Reviews Rolling Stone (p.80) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "OCMS' rollicking fiddle sawing, guitjo picking and harmonica huffing will appeal to jam-band fans and PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION listeners alike, and there's a deadpan charm to singers Secor and Kevin Hayes."
Dirty Linen (p.64) - "They certainly haven't forgotten the sound of the Appalachian holler that originally inspired them, as 'Next Go Round' shows..."
Paste (magazine) (p.54) - "OCMS' desire to expand its capabilities feels refreshingly honest....The opening lyrics to the cautionary 'Methamphetamine' ring like a statement of purpose..."
