Formed in 2003, rock’n’rollers Dukes went on to win MTV’s Kickstart
competition, have supported Gomez and INXS on their NZ dates, toured
as support to Dave Dobbyn, Gin Wigmore, Midnight Youth, Th’Dudes and
even had a song played in the popular US TV series ‘Brothers and
Sisters’.
That the single ‘Vampires’ was released as the world entered a Twilight
/True Blood obsession, was a freakish coincidence – songwriter Matt
Barus wrote the song using Vampires as a metaphor for materialism. It
has been in the airplay charts for over 14 months, reached the top ten
and gold sales status, then went on to win the viewer-voted Juice T.V
best video award 2010.
The single ‘Self Control’ followed, then the Settle Down EP featuring
stripped-back versions of the songs they performed as guests of Dave
Dobbyn on the Acoustic Church Tour, entering the Top 20 at #16.
Their much anticipated brand new album, Still Life features both the
aforementioned singles ‘Vampires’ and ‘Self Control’.
Dukes are brothers frontman/songwriter Matt & bass player Jo Barus,
Guitarist Brad Bank, drummer Fausia Tuiloma Tufugafale, and keyboardist
/backing vocalist L.A Mitchell
