Throughout his long career (he cut his first record in 1949) Ray Price has always been restless, veering between hard country and Nashville pop, between twin fiddles and orchestras, and while other country stars were donning hats and outlaw poses, he just went out there and sang. It certainly worked for him: over the years he's placed some 100 songs on the country charts, with close to half of those hitting the Top Ten, an impressive achievement by any standard. Price has also released several gospel albums in his career, bringing that amazing voice to bear on classic songs and hymns from the genre, ten of which are collected in this Ray Price gospel sampler which features his versions of gospel standards "Peace in the Valley," "The Old Rugged Cross," "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," and others. It's not country. It's not honky tonk. It's not pop. It's Ray Price singing gospel, bringing his voice to bear with the sincerity, emotion, and phrasing that have become his trademarks. ~ Steve Leggett
