In the late '70s and '80s, bassist Eberhard Weber's music epitomized the ECM sound. Emphasizing long tones, contrasting sound with silence and heading a quartet comprised of Charlie Mariano on soprano and flute, keyboardist Rainer Bruninghaus and drummer John Marshall, Weber performs three stretched-out originals including the 17«-minute "Seriously Deep." This music moves slowly and requires a lot of patience by the listener. ~ Scott Yanow

Of the three albums by this quartet, this is my favourite and it seems to be the most well-rated. Even though the performances are lengthy, each tune has multiple sections and are incredibly dynamic, ranging from soft whispers from sax and piano to intense grooves with the whole band contributing. There is more acoustic piano on this album than the group's first yet the fusion sound is still very much present albeit more mature-sounding. If you are new to Eberhard's music this is one of his best albums to check out along with Colours of Chloe.
