  • Delbert McClinton's 19th album is easily his most romantic. The set showcases the gentler side of his signature voice in beautifully arranged tunes that emphasize its sweetness. He and his working band, the Self-Made Men, took inspiration from Johnny Mercer and Nat King Cole, with songs that range from airy, grooving jazz-blues and vintage country pop to doo wop. All tunes were written or-co-written by the singer with his bandmates and co-producers Kevin McKendree and Bob Britt. The advance track, "Like Lovin' Used to Be," is a perfect illustration of the album's tender, roomy, intimate sound. ~ Thom Jurek
