PREMIERES features Conrad Chow with SINFONIA TORONTO, conducted by Ronald Royer. SINFONIA TORONTO is one of Canada’s finest chamber orchestras, whose core of virtuoso strings perform standing, in the tradition of great European chamber orchestras, achieving a dynamic blend that combines the intensity of solo performance, the intimacy of chamber music, and a brilliant ensemble sonority.
The concerti were recorded July 4–6, 2011, at Revolution Recording (Toronto) by Jeff Wolpert. The violin and piano pieces were recorded October 14, 2011, at Firehouse Recording Studios (Pasadena, CA) by Ed Woolley. The album was edited and mixed at Desert Fish (Toronto) by Jeff Wolpert. Producers for the project are Jeannie Gayle Pool and Ronald Royer. PREMIERES (Cambria CD-1204) is distributed by Naxos, and will be in Canadian stores as of June 26, 2012 (digital release is June 5).
The making of Bruce Broughton’s Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra, Triptych was captured by well-known Canadian filmmaker Saul Pincus – who will be on hand on June 28 to talk about the relationship between music and film. The documentary on the making of PREMIERES features Conrad Chow and Sinfonia Toronto in the recording studio. Stay tuned: details about the release of this fascinating short film – to take place via Film Score Monthly Online (FSMO) at www.fsmonlinemag.com – will be announced shortly.
