  • Indianapolis indie pop act Margot and the Nuclear So & So's may not be thrilled with the contents of their sophomore album NOT ANIMAL, but the listener won't be disappointed. Due to the band and label not quite being on the same page, there are two different versions of the album, sharing some tracks but otherwise different. NOT ANIMAL is the label's preferred take, but standouts like "German Motor Car" and "A Children's Crusade on Acid" appear here as well. In fact, there's no discernible drop-off in quality, as the band's intricately constructed, hushed songcraft remains in place throughout.
Professional Reviews
Spin (p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[F]rontman Richard Edwards' supple voice conveys tenderness, desperation, and wit over an inviting tangle of guitars, keyboards, strings and horns."

Blender (Magazine) (p.75) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "This Indianapolis collective creates clever chamber pop that stretches skyward with keyboards, harmonica and an occasional horn or string section."
