The Judds were one of mainstream country's biggest attractions in the 1980s and '90s, and LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE, the duo's final album, contains plenty of the slick, accessible sounds, strong songwriting, and grab-bag of styles that made their other records such hits. The Judds were country, sure, but they also brought some blues, rock, R&B, and soft pop to the mix for a sound that distinguished them from the crowd.
"Rompin' Stompin' Blues," for example, is a rollicking number that features Bonnie Raitt on slide guitar, while the title track is a delicate acoustic ballad that demonstrates the Judds' lovely vocal interplay. "This Country's Rockin'" channels a bit of old school rockabilly, while "Calling In The Wind" is pure adult contemporary. Even while incorporating various influences, LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE is still cohesive and holds the hit-making duo's reputation in good stead.
