Performer Notes
  • Personnel: Jack Johnson (vocals, guitar); Merlo Podlewski (bass instrument); Adam Topol (drums, percussion).
  • A former professional surfer and self-proclaimed beach bum, Jack Johnson is an unlikely candidate for rock-star status. Somehow, however, this everyman's mellow pop songs seem to tap into a commonly held desire for the simple life. The formula on IN BETWEEN DREAMS doesn't vary much from Johnson's previous albums, but is no less engaging--delicately strummed acoustic guitar, round bass lines, and gently funky drum patterns form a comforting bed for the Hawaii native's effortlessly soulful R&B-meets-folk vocals.
  • Sounding at times like a more laid-back G. Love (without the rap tendencies), Johnson celebrates the simple pleasures and asks the big questions with the childlike innocence that only someone living in a literal paradise could muster. "Banana Pancakes" is a Harry Nilsson-like groover that urges listeners to skip work and enjoy themselves every so often, while "Good People" decries the age of reality television with a poignancy reminiscent of Donovan at his free-spirited best. Perhaps the track that most accurately encapsulates Johnson's unique less-is-more approach, however, is "Belle," a jazzy ditty that clocks in at less than two minutes and lets a swooning accordion tell the bulk of the story.

This CD Is very casual and yet filled with some great songs with soft guitar rifts, great percussion and good ol everyday lyrics about life. Johnson's sound is one that softly relaxes and compliments an atmoshpere everyone wants. Jack's personal talent and writing is compelling. This is a CD Worth owning and adding to one's collection.

The third cd recorded by ex-surfer Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams is in my opinion the best cd that Johnson has released and the ultimate summer album. The mix of really relaxed and laid back tracks makes for great listening. With tracks like "Good People" including very political lyrics about the media as well as light-hearted songs like "Banana Pancakes" this cd shows Johnsons skills as a talented songwriter. i love this album.

My favourite song in this whole fantastic album is 'Do You Remember'. It is the sweetest little melody and the lyrics are so sweet you might have to brush your teeth afterwards (that's a whole lot of flouride!). It's about a guy reminiscing about when he and his loved one (girlfriend? wife?) first moved in together and how their piano took up the living room and how thankful he is that even after ten years she is still his. Worth buying the album just for this little gem

The very first album I have heard from Jack Johnson, and I must say he is all that he has been cracked up to be. This is actually one of the rare albums that I can listen to every song in it and not find a single bad one. a lovely companion to have on your Ipod and will make any car trip, train or bus ride, or walk a plesant, soothing one. Buy it if you want an hour of easy, sweet listening, it will sooth and relax you!

oh dear, could there BE a more boring album out there?!? i dont think so. this album all sounds the same, as you can tell by the radio "hits" breakdown and sitting waiting wishing. but if you like all that boring surfer dullness then this album will probably appeal. but for those wanting something a bit more exciting out of their average cd, look elsewhere, this will only make you sleepy.

Jack Johnson is one of the best song writers out in the world of music where catchy phrases and lack of musical variety rule the world of music its good to hear something that tells a story and leaves something with the listener. With his great guitar Jack Johnson has no paricular genre but great music.

With his great guitar Jack Johnson has no paricular genre but great music. Although his songs start to get bland after listening to them a while Jack Johnson changes up things with songs like Belle,Good People, and Sitting,Waiting,Wishing. This is probably one of the best albums I've bought in years, and with its great melodies and great lyrics it'll have you reciting the words at your desk at work in no time.

boring cd from jack johnson, but what else is new. its like he doesnt even try to vary his music, or think that people want something other than boring instruments whcih are largely acoustic, and easy listening lyrics and singing that sounds lkike a lullaby. in between dreams alright, thats waht you will be when you listen to this.

'in Between Dreams' is a lovely slice of light acoustic pop. The music is quite sublime and relaxed in nature. My favourite songs are the bossa nova-like 'Do You Remember' ,'Staple It Togehter' and 'Constellations'. Recommended.
