• The King of Bakersfield Country's back catalog from Capitol Records has been reissued by the kind folks at Sundazed, with original cover art and extra bonus songs. The brand of country Buck was doing in the early and mid-'60s was a bit at odds with Nashville--his music was heavy on the pedal steel guitar, had a strong beat, surging harmonies that lacked any trace of pop compromise and sharp, driving picking from his band. This set mixes honky-tonk angst (the title song and "Don't Let Her Know") with choice covers ("Dang Me," "Louisiana Man," "Understand Your Man"--with Buck doing a killer Johnny Cash impression!) and spiffy instrumentals ("Buck's Polka," "Bud's Bounce"). Honky-tonky heaven!!!
