On his first release since 1984's SCENES, violinist Michael Galassao has made a follow-up worth waiting for. Edgy, innovative, startling, and artfully constructed, HIGH LINES finds Galassao joined by percussionist Frank Colon, guitarist Terje Rypdal, and double-bass player Mark Marder to create a classical/jazz/rock/ambient fusion record for the 21st century.
This is tense, searching, progressive chamber jazz of the first order, incorporating such stylistic threads as Indian and North African drones, avant fragment-scapes, piercing modern rock (especially the six-string antics of Rypdal), modern classical, and primitive folk forms. But Galassao manages to pull these disparate influences into a compelling, and deeply engaging sound that feels right at home on the heady, unclassifiable roster at ECM.

JazzTimes (p.64) - "Galasso's rich, quirky, ambiguous music quickly commands attention on its own."
