As one of the most controversial figures in hip-hop history, Eminem can be forgiven for being somewhat self-obsessed. THE EMINEM SHOW's opening cut "White America" sums up the notorious rapper's self-defense by keenly observing that while the color of his skin has something to do with his widespread popularity it's also the reason his lyrics are examined so scrupulously by critics who otherwise wouldn't bother. "I could be one of your kids" he proclaims, getting right to the heart of the matter. Despite the abundance of introspection, Eminem doesn't back up a single step on any of the themes that made him such a hot property. He's still into glorifying violence, as on "Soldier" one of the many cuts where he waves his broken-home/dysfunctional upbringing like a flag to justify the hatred that seeps from every pore of THE EMINEM SHOW.
Over the course of the album, he threatens to brutally murder so many members of his family that one begins to lose track, but this is just the kind of hard-ass image that's helped make him an icon. The aforementioned cut finds the former Marshall Mathers making one of his most telling statements; "I'll never be Marshall again." It's clear that the Eminem identity allows him to fully vent his rage and get lauded (by some) for it instead of imprisoned. In his continuing effort to show that he's as hardcore as any black rapper, he extends his rancor Professor Griff-stye to Jews on the skits "Paul Rosenberg" and "Steve Berman," the latter of whom we hear getting shot for whiningly taking Em's music to task. Love him or hate him, Eminem makes no apologies, and THE EMINEM SHOW is as strong a statement as he's made to date.

Eminem follows up the previous 'Marshall Mathers LP' well with this album. Every track is quality from Eminem as usual as he gives us abit of comedy as well as getting down and serious through out the album. Stand outs for me include 'Sing For the Moment' which samples Aerosmith song Dream on, 'Cleaning Out My Closet', 'My Dad's Gone Crazy' and 'Hailie's Song' in which Eminem shows his softer side. You can't go wrong with this album.

I have never been a fan of rap/hip-hop but Eminem has been the only artist from this genera that I like. And this was the first of his albums I bought of his. The Eminem Show has served me well and I am pleased to say that I enjoyed this album and im sure you will to. Some songs of interest include: White America, Without Me and 'Till I Collapse.

I was never too much into rap and was pretty much force fed it by a friend. In short time I realized how skilled Eminem is and have been able to really appreciate his rhythm and way of constructing lyrics. There is a lot here even for a “non” fan to really get into and whether I or not I ever go to one of his concerts I will definitely say that this album is worthy of being called excellent.

this is an excellent album, probably the best he has released so far, every song is different and has its own special style and what this means is that you wont feel the repeatitiveness you often find in albums where the artist just keep using the same style over and over and over and over again.
recommended songs are 2,3,4,5,7,…6,17,18,19... :) this is a must have

This is a pretty good album aye, there is that controversial spark of fire of his tongue and it makes the album roll on from song to song, sure there is probably a couple of songs on here that arent that good. And the next album after this one sort of shows hes fallen of his stoll.

Not very good, but miles better than Encore. This begind to show the poppier more childish side of eminem. While there are some decent agressive songs like white america. Most of this album is filler and doesn't show much decent song writing ability. Not his worst, nowhere near his best.

13. Superman - 5/5 - Love this song. If you ever get to see the video it's really good as well.

18. 'Till I Collapse - 5/5 - Another one of Eminem's best songs. The beat is absolutely amazing. Nate Dogg does a great chorus as well.
19. My Dad's Gone Crazy - 5/5 - Really good song. Pretty funny in parts too.

Apart from his first one, I think this is best album that eminem has released. He really seems to up the ante with the 'stick it' attitude, especially towards america and the government, with the songs 'white america' and 'square dance', and manages to poke even more fun at himself with 'my dad's gone crazy', which features his daughter Hailee singing parts of the chorus (which is cute and funny, but also slightly disturbing). I wasn't too keen on the skits, but then that's just me, I tend to find them a bit annoying, and not as funny as the ones on his other albums, but in the end, it's the music that matters...
Recomended for fans, people digging attitude, anyone angry at the government, those who love good beats and witty rap.
Not recomended for the hearing impaired, people who don't swear, people without a sense of humour, or anyone uncomfortable with free speech.

Eminem controlled himself on this album. He gives us a mix of comedy, love, hate and truth. Stand out songs include Without Me, which has quite a hilarious video clip to go with it, Sing for the Moment, Business, Cleaning Out my Closet and Superman. I prefer this album over his Encore album and it's quite unfortunate to see Eminem retire but good luck to him.
