Like its predecessor, KRYPTOS, COSMOPOLY finds Andreas Vollenweider exploring the music of Asia, Eastern Europe, South America, Africa, and Ireland, blending elements of each into a unique, New Age music amalgam. Vollenweider augments his electric harp with the sound of various stringed instruments from around the world including the koto, the Chinese harp, the ocarina, and the 12-string guitar.
Additionally, Vollenweider is joined by several distinguished guests, including jazz trombonist Ray Anderson, Galician bagpipe player Carlos Nunez, and jazz-pop vocal chameleon Bobby McFerrin. The contributions of these musicians make the COSMOPOLY sparkle. Carly Simon even makes an appearance (reciting a passage from James Joyce, no less) on "Your Silver Key," putting the cherry on this ambitious, ever-intriguing, multicultural musical cake.
Abdullah Ibrahim; Ray Anderson; Carly Simon; Mindy Jostyn; Bobby McFerrin; Milton Nascimento

There were more vocals than I would've hoped for on this type of recording. And it very definitely does not flow when you play the CD through. However, try the sequences given on the booklet's back cover, "The Loop Map", and you will achieve far better flows. If only the cuts had been arranged according to those suggested loops. To do so, there would've been a repetition of "Capriccio", but that would've okay.
