Never mind that Bocelli fans have heard all the critics have to say, and could care less, so we really didn't need a recap. There aren't enough critics to fill the front row of a concert venue. Leave that up to those of us who can fill them many times over, easily, easily.
This CD has something for everyone. The new songs for those of us who never get tired of the oldies but goodies. "Io ci saro"--a vocal and instrumental masterpiece. "Bellisme stelle" a reminder that the Tenor can rock. "La voce del silenzio" pretty awesome. "A te"--the verdict is still out at this point. And a couple of these songs are reminders that beyond his voice Mr. B. is not a bad lyricist.
And the oldies? "Sogno"--Bocelli at his best. Sung with such depth of feeling. "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera" was a good choice although I wish he'd have rerecorded it. His voice has matured so beautifully over the years, I'd love to hear what he could do with them now. Although the original "Vivere" remains my favorite, taking it out of a jazzy atmosphere and into the pop realm was a great idea and successful! Really cool ending. "Canto della terra"--don't mess with a good thing. Can't miss with "Mille lune mille onde" but in my opinion not the best from that particular CD. "Romanza"--nice, but I think it would have benefited from a new recording. "Vivo per lei"--one of the ultimate duets. But this CD really needs him in duet with another male singer as he's done some great stuff with Romazzotti and others. "Melodramma"--moving as well. "Time to Say Goodbye"--unfortunately I have never been fond of Ms. Brightman's vocals so I would much prefer Bocelli's "Con te partiro". "The prayer"--a little too disney for me, but the song showcases his voice. "Because we believe"--as much his voice in this one is the truth of the message. We've all stood in the spotlight at some point in our lives hoping for the best. We can relate.
