- In the late 1990s, the television show SOUTH PARK sparked a trend of using figures associated with children's entertainment, such as puppets and animated characters, in the service of adult comedy. Depending on your viewpoint, this either generates marvelously clever social critique or cheap, tasteless jokes. Adding to the controversy is AVENUE Q, the smash Broadway hit that reads like a thinly veiled SESAME STREET parody, in which a charming puppet world is subverted by smart, bawdy humor about sexuality, pornography, and racism.
- In this production, for example, puppet roommates Rod and Nicky seem to have a particularly close relationship (explored in "If You Were Gay") and other characters wonder "What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?" and declare "It Sucks to Be Me" in a rousing medley. The original Broadway cast recording features these songs and more, and it is no wonder AVENUE Q won the Tony for Best Musical given its catchy tunes, witty lyrics, and spirited performances. One listen to the score and you, too, may find yourself singing "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" and "The Internet Is for Porn."

When I heard my first song from Avenue Q (It Sucks To Be You) I thought I must have died and gone to heaven. The internet is for porn, I not wearing underwear today, Special. These are the songs that will go down in history. The funniest musical I have ever come across. Even people who hate musicals couldn't go past this one! If only they would bring it to Australasia...

every track on this album is entertaining! my favourites, if i had to pick them, would have to be if you were gay, a little bit racist, My Girlfriend, Who Lives In Canada, I Wish I Could Go Back To College and There Is Life Outside Your Apartment. this album is pure entertainment. grab it if you just loved the musical.

This HILARIOUS new show brings together puppets in the style of Sesame Street and a type of humour more suited to late night comedies with rousing success. Not for those who offend easily, Avenue Q features such rib-busting songs as 'If You were Gay', 'It sucks to be me' and my personal favourite 'My Girlfriend, who lives in Canada'. These puppets in their own cheerful way, change your view of life and you'll enjoy every minute of it.
