Annie Get Your Gun, the highly regarded musical about Annie Oakley joining Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, was originally conceived as a vehicle for Ethel Merman. Annie was the blockbuster success they had hoped for -- running for 1, 147 performances -- but it was also a completely successful musical outside of its commercial bankability. Containing showstoppers like "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" and "There's No Business Like Show Business," this Irving Berlin charmer holds the same power today as it did in 1946, when it was originally performed. This studio recording, released in 1991, returns two songs that were removed from the 1966 version to their correct context in the play. These songs, performed by the characters Tommy and Winnie, allow for a break from the barrage of songs featuring Annie and Frank, the two lead characters. ~ Sarah Erlewine
