The Mandukhai Ensemble is a well-known ensemble that specialized in traditional Mongolian singing, the music of that people being mainly vocal. Mongolia developed with Tuvan people what is called throat singing (also called diphonic or overtone singing). Among both people, throat singing is called Khuumii. This name is originally a Mongolian word. They even share some folk songs. You can hear different styles of songs (short and long songs and song with throat singing) on this CD, as well as solo pieces and dances. The main Mongolian musical instruments are the following: the limbe (a transverse flute), the syanz (a three-string lute), the yoocin (a dulcimer), the d”rb”n utas-tai huur (a four-string fiddle), as well as some percussion. Mongolian music at its best. ~ Bruno Deschˆnes
