An epic tale of love, courage and the will to survive.
Two very different people meet and fall in love in ZELARY, the Oscar-nominated romantic epic from director Ondrej Trojan. Eliska (Ana Geislerova), a sophisticated medical student, first meets Joza (Gyorgy Cserhalmi) at a Prague hospital, where her blood saves the injured sawmill worker's life. But Eliska also works with the Czech resistance and when she's betrayed to the Gestapo, Joza agrees to hide the young woman in his remote mountain village of Zelary. Forced to marry the rough-hewn peasant and pose as his wife, Eliska is at first defiant and angry. But with the passing of time, she comes to realize that there's more to Joza than first meets the eye. And so, even the war rages around them, Eliska and Joza soon find themselves deeply and passionately in love, until an unexpected twist of fate threatens to put their extraordinary romance to the ultimate test.

I caught this film late one night on SBS2 just as I was going to bed... I kept telling myself, I'll just watch this scene, just this one more, oh maybe at the end of this bit... until I was up at 2am with a little tear in my eye!
This story follows the lives changed by Nazi rule in Europe, and the compromises between city and country life. The beautiful lead female is stunning (she looks like a ballerina!), and we learn early on that she is a stylish city lady, but is forced to move to the country and live with a man who is - a little less refined. The story follows their growing relationship.
It is a very, very sweet film and thoroughly moving. The visionary aspects are gorgeous, I want to go to Zelary!
The movie is set in the 1940s and the Czech lands have been occupied by the Nazis. The story goes on and the main actress - Eliska saves the life of a man. They eventually fall in love. The plot is reather predictable but the unquie setting and circumstances of the movie make it very intersting! Recommended to all.
