The Wire is, hands down, the best TV show ever made. No question. There has never been anything this intelligent before, or this realistic. Carrying on from season 1, season 2 finds the action centred on the waterfront, though the Barksdale drug empire is still around, as are the usual political intrigues. The cops are back on the trail when 14 dead bodies are found on the waterfront. Seems like a dull description I know, but trust me, you have never seen anything like this before. Yes, it can be hard to stay through the first 5 episodes, because the writers take their time setting up all the plots. You are given several (fascinating) pieces of a puzzle and only 5 or so episodes in is it finally revealed that yes, the pieces are all from the same puzzle. And how they get to the end of it all is brilliantly done. There has never been TV writing this good, this clever, this respectful of the audience's intelligence. My personal opinion: THIS SHOW WILL NEVER BE SURPASSED.
Season 1 of The Wire was so good that we had to see if they could maintain the high standard in the second season. They did! This is the type of compelling viewing where you gradually get so involved that you are disappointed when each programme ends. We will buy the next seasons. Great to have something this good to fill the poor summer of tv viewing.
Excellent series - I cannot understand why the television networks didn't recognize the brilliance of this show! Gritty realism and complex characters make this an absolute must watch!
Best ever T.V. series...up there with ground breaking series like N.Y.P.D. Sopranos .Very gritty violent but like the very best of books totally un-put downable!Once you start watching this you are pulled right in to this very realistic world of organised crime.
