What an amazing movie this is. When I first saw this I was completely taken by surprise having only known Spike Jonze from Jackass movies. I was worried that they would destroy one of my favourite books when I was a kid. However, Jonze managed to take the short and sweet story and make it into a beautiful masterpiece. The outstanding scenes alone are a reason to see this movie.
Max Records also manages to play the part of Max brilliantly for one so young. He brings a vigor to the character and its easy to relate with the young boy who is learning the hard truths of life. This is not a movie for young children despite the target age of the book. There are some scenes which even I found slightly disturbing and there are many stories of children crying during the movie.
As for the DVD itself, it arrived a little squashed but otherwise perfectly fine and earlier than expected.
