This was a great New Zealand film, it was quite famous mainly due to the Oscar nomination of the lead actress, an unknown girl carefully picked for her role in this film. It's about a Maori family in New Zealand, and how they integrate tradition into modern life - the girl should be the rightful inheritance of chief, but her grandfather, despite being quite close with her, refuses to accept her role in the group, merely due to gender. Films with a strong young female protagonist are always nice to see, and this one is no exception. Quite moving.

This is one of the best movies produced in new zealand ever! This is an amazing story that will touch everyone's heart. It is heart wrenching, joyful, uplifting and makes me feel so proud as a kiwi that this movie was so well received around the world. Keisha Castle-Hughes is a brilliant young actress destined for great things. This is a must see movie for all kiwis. Simply stunning.
