Hmm, well im not sure what the reviewer meant about the its all about love connection but anyway, this movie is for me one of the better movies that tom cruise has been in. If you want to see tom cruise in his normal action star role than this is not it. This is a remake of a spanish film called open your eyes and being that i have seen both i prefer this one more, as the production values are way better and the budget allows the filmamkers to actually portray someone who is uber rich rather well. A personal favorite of mine but i can totally understand how people would become confused by its multiple plotlines and artistic feel, its also a little relgious too, so not one for everyone obviously.
This is one weird cookie of a movie. Tom Cruise's perplexing choice of movie roles reflect his bizarre personality. Hence he works well in this role. One for the fans, I found this movie dull and boring to say the least. This movie attempts to be ground breaking and revolutionary but merely comes across as esoteric.
Vanilla Sky is quite a disappointment considering the presence of Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Kurt Russell, and Penelope Cruz, among others!
The acting is pretty good (but nothing great), the plot is below average, while the dialogues/lines are way beyond "below average!"
Tom Cruise and the rest of this AMAZING cast are given terrible lines and bad roles. A shame, really...
The dialogues-oh my- the dialogues are beyond words...
As for the plot, school plays (and pre-school for that matter) have better storylines! It is truly sad...
It seems as though the writers/directors/producers decided to go artsy-fartsy on us, following in the dreaded footsteps of other such "films" as It's All About Love and the Russian Ark.
So it's a weak plot, and a GREAT-but-wasted cast and setting, which when put together fail to take off. No masterpiece here.
Ever had a movie that just clicked with you, the one that had the perfect theme, feeling, music and ending? Vanilla Sky was that movie for me, and for that reason I have to recommend it to everyone. Its a flawless, beautiful meditation on themes of life, death, loss and grieving for the past.
