A novel approach to the now classic horror genre, Urban Legend sends up 'the rules' of the contemporary horror film (much like 'Scream') and at the same time delivers on edge-of-the-seat set pieces. It's a great entertaining piece of nonsense that certainly doesn't bore, and as a result is well worth viewing (at least once).

In the style of Friday the 13th and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend is another slasher horror, with the villian stalking around in a mix of a fencing suit and eskimo outfit, fans of other slashers will enjoy seeing deaths carried out in the tradition of urban legends, having a little more edge than just the typical machete of axe butcherings.

There's a campus killer on the loose who's making urban legends, like the one about eating pop rocks and soda at the same time will make your stomach explode and the one about a psycho with an axe stepping into the backseat of your car at the gas station when not looking, into reality.

Classic! One of my favourite movies of all time! 5 STARS – No DVD collection is complete without this title amongst it. Powerful performances, superb production value with strong clear direction… a masterpiece. A must see for all movie fans, some might not agree with me but this film with live on for many years after the actors have all but been forgotten!!!!!11!1!

A film so Oridinary despite it's plot line. A Horror Slasher with a few different Urband Legends stuffed in, with a cast who in ten years won't be making movies. Urban Legend could be seen as a Scream Rip-Off. And it is.

Urban Legend is a film you should pass mainly because it's not so good. It's not so scary. It's not so Original. It's not so Interesting.
This was followed by two sequels.

Above average despite it's looks. Possibly a movie that one would forget after buying it and therefore it will just gather dust somewhere in your large DVD collection. So you'd just be better off renting it, that is if you can find it. If not, you aren't missing much so it's a win - win situation.

I don't think the Urban Legends series gets the attention it deserves. The quality of the films goes down with each sequel (with the third having nothing at all to do with the first two films), but it's still a darn good trio of horror movies. This is a great buy for those who don't already have all three films (especially the first two) in their DVD libraries.
Most of my high regard for the series is due to the original. Far from being a Scream clone, it is one of the most impressive slasher films of recent years, in my opinion. The suspense is sustained throughout, the identification of the killer is handled superbly, and the ending is well-nigh perfect. A serial killer who constructs his/her kills on urban legends - fantastic. Maybe it's not a wholly original idea, but no film had ever taken the premise to the extreme the way Urban Legend did. Among the talented cast, Alicia Witt and Rebecca Gayheart give particularly impressive performances. Gayheart in particular really expanded her acting repertoire with this film. The less talented cast members, as it turns out, were pretty much the first to be dispatched, and this works out well. It's always nice when a particularly annoying character you expect to have to deal with until the end gets offed in the first half hour. All told, I actually consider Urban Legend to be a much more original, shocking, effective film than any of the Scream movies it is invariably compared to. The final revelations of this film, as I have already mentioned, took me completely by surprise, and that really doesn't happen all that often.

Urban Legend is the average slasher flick that came out amongst all the others. The acting is average, with a few good points but mostly that teen slasher fakeness with it. The storyline is good, using Urban Legends as the background for the murders and this is what makes it interesting. There are a few moments of suspense in this film that make it worth watching for a bit of a scare
