Billions of dollars of illegally hoarded government funds lie hidden and almost forgotten. Protected by firewalls, passwords and the most advanced security systems on earth, the funds are untouchable. Well, almost. With the right people and the perfect plan, CIA operative Gabriel Shear (Travolta) is sure he can steal it. But it'll take more than a dozen mercenaries, massive weaponry and hostages to obtain it. ok wow. this is an excellent film, immensely clever and well acted. john travolta is in top form as always as a devilish villan who wants to fight fire with fire in the respect of 'saving america' and he has chosen hugh jackman to help him do it. edge of your seat stuff, you cant miss this
I loved, loved, loved this movie!!! I don't think it was the best from John Travolta but Halle Berry did well. Lots of action and fast paced. Lots of twists and it keeps you hooked. The special effects are superb and a reasonable storyline makes for this movie to be in your ollection!
It has its failings but they are barely visible undernearth the tight, interwoven plot and supurb acting. The interesting chronological twist hooked me fast; making the rest of the movie more interesting in contrast then if they'd begun from 'the start'. Theres twists, subplots and diversions but it all makes this one of the best smart action movies.
I think people have been a little to harsh on this movie. No it is not revelatory but it is a nice glossy diversion. The all-star cast, especially Hugh Jackman, is more than competent though they aren't really challenged. There are enough special effects and stunts intermixed with a fairly compelling narrative (it is not confusing if you just pay attention) to make the film more than worthwhile. Overall good entertainment
Not the best of john travoltas or halle berrys movies but defiitly still a good movie and definitly worth a wacth, john travolta is great at playing the bad guy and there are some mont scenes with some good bangs, its a rather odd sotry but most epople should enjoy the way it works
Swordfish opens amazingly promisingly. "Hollywood makes shit!" says baddie John Travolta. I was quite taken aback at such a frank admission. Granted, Hollywood didn't always make shit, but it does now. How the hell did the scriptwriters get that wonderful line of dialogue past the faceless corporate Hollywood suits? Maybe - by getting the bad guy to badmouth these slimy film corporations - they were hoping that his words would seem dishonest. Yet his words resonated with the pure ring of truth.
There then follows the most astonishing explosion scene I have ever beheld. Fantastic stuff - even if people are propelled through the air by the glass-shattering blast wave and then seem to recover instantly, with scant symptoms of breathing difficulties, disorientation, earache or shock, or laceration by flying glass, etc etc.
i read two things about this movie before i watched it. one was the fact that the movie paid 1 million dollars to have halle berrys boobs in a scene, the second thing that i read was that the movie was in fact ok. well two things i found about this movie were crap, the movie itself was fairly lame and formulaic and halle berry boobs arent really worth a buck fifty.
A great opening (a Tarantino-esque discussion about "Dog Day Afternoon" between Travolta and an off - screen Cheadle), followed by a 360 degree view of the carnage of an explosion... soon gives way to a rolling mess of a film. More famous for the appearance of Halle Berry's chest, the two main highlights were Travolta as a slick bad guy, and Hugh Jackman as a credible leading action man...
A rather convoluted and maybe too slick techno thriller. Laden with Matrix inspired stunts and effects and explosive mayhem, this movie is chock a bloc with A-list stars with John Travolta, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry headlining the cast. The story centers around a ruthless spy played by John Travolta who hires and coherces a brilliant computer whizz and hacker, Hugh Jackman, to assist him in stealing billions in Govertment funds. Good to watch for the effects but not very emotionally involving at all. Little to care about in any of the characters.
Swordfish is a ghastly overinflated mess masquerading as an action film. It has so much flab there is very little story even less character development. The whole thing seems to revolve around tedious set pieces where things get blown up. Explosions do not make a movie. Waste's a fair cast and sinks under the weight of its own pretentions.
