A man, his son and wife become the winter caretakers of an isolated hotel where Danny, the son, sees disturbing visions of the hotel's past using a telepathic gift known as "The Shining". The father, Jack Torrance, is underway in a writing project when he slowly slips into insanity as a result of cabin fever and former guests of the hotels ghost's. After being convinced by a waiter's ghost to "correct" the family, Jack goes completely insane. The only thing that can save Danny and his mother is "The Shining".
Television adaptation of Stephen King novel that follows a recovering alcoholic professor. He ends up taking a job as a winter caretaker for a remote Colorado hotel which he seeks as an opportunity to finish a piece of work. With his wife and son with him, the caretaker settles in, only to see visions of the hotel's long deceased employees and guests. With evil intentions, they manipulate him into his dark side which takes a toll on he and his family.
This is a bit supernatural and a bit horror, follows the insanity of mankind, the story is set at The Overlook Hotel where a family is staying. For Jack, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, it is a place where past horrors will come to life and where they will find that those gifted with the shining (a power) will do battle with the darkest of evils. THe father plays a brilliantly frightening character, though no where near as good as the first one with jack nicholson

if you havnt seen the first "The Shining".... i wouldnt bring myself to say that this is one of stephen kings best movies.... he has done better.... but once you do get into the movie you kinda want to watch more to see what is going to happen.... but if i was asked to buy this movies again i wouldnt.... he has alot of better movies out there then this one!
i would have thought this movie was ok had i not been comparing it to the original the w hole time. i was unimpressed by this long and very drawn out remake of a spectacular classic horror. the acting left a lot to be desired as no one could compete with the amazing job that jack nicholson did in the original.
Hmm. Although pretty much made for television, this movie manages to be watchable. It is more faithful to the original story, but lacks the cinematography magic which Stanley Kubrick brought to the original movie. I found this movie to be too long, and I hate it when a remake is done on a movie when the original was just fine (or even spectacular). I would, however, recommend this for King devotees, due to it's faithfulness.
this is one of the better adaptations of stephen kings acclaimed novel, the shining, as it follows more true to the actual book, and waht happened in it. some good actring in here, more realistic than in other movies, and really scared me at many times. good for a watch if you are a king fan, you will like this.
