This is the last full album of material recorded by Miles Davis in collaboration with arranger Gil Evans, and features some of their most engaging work together. The sound on this album is more orchestral than their previous two albums, leading to some labelling it “not jazz”. Even so, no matter whether or not it is jazz, the music they play is fantastic, and the arrangement of “Concierto De Aranjuez” inspires Miles to record one of his best performances on record in any style. For that track alone, this album is worth buying, and the other tracks are also great listening. The new bonus tracks introduce several new songs recorded at the session as well as great concert takes of some of the original tunes.
