Caroline (Kate Hudson) is a twenty-five-year-old hospice worker who cares for the ailing and the elderly, a job designed to atone for her own mistake for ignoring her dying father in the past, when she had been a rock 'n' roll manager. After her latest charge passes away, Caroline takes a job in Louisiana, caring for Ben (John Hurt), a stroke-victim who is bed-ridden and cannot speak. But Caroline becomes suspicious of the house, and Ben's cold wife, Violet (Gena Rowlands) only adds to the creepy atmosphere. After acquiring a skeleton key, Caroline makes her way into a secret room within the attic where she discovers hair, blood, bones, spells, and other instruments for practicing hoodoo. Violet says she has never been in the secret room, but that the items probably belonged to the original owners' two houseworkers, who practiced black magic and were lynched as a result. Noting that Ben had his stroke in the attic after entering the room, Caroline is determined to unlock the secrets of the house, and rescue Ben from the horrors that hold him captive within.
this movie was pretty boring all the way through, and the drab new orleans was really depressing. the movie was a bit creepy, but nothing special, save the ending, which i thought was superb. they heavily relied on trying to give people frights rather than doing anything scary, so they played it safe and a bit boring in parts.
this movie was very suprising, i di not expect the ending, i heard bad thigns about it and the trailer didnt impress me, but out of curiosity i rented it any way, i was very impressed, both by kate hudsons acting and by how cool the story turned out to be, this movie is deifnitly worth a watch and or buying
Kate Hudson is great in this movie. set on the outskirts of New Orleans in a creepy old house with rain rain and more rain kate's character is the carer for an old man who doesn't no what is wrong with him. with great sound affects to go with the mood of the movie scenes and with some voodoo the movie is a great thriller that i really enjoyed watching.
This movie was everything I expected it to be. Kate Hudson is great in a role that is a bit unusual for her, being a carer for an elderly person. The surroundings in which the movie is set contribute to the creepy feel of the movie - it is set in the swamps on the outskirts of New Orleans. Add to that pouring rain, an isolated creepy old house, voodoo etc. and you have a great thriller.
I liked this movie very much. it had a really good story line which kept me quite entertianed throughout the whole movie. it has some gross and graphic scenes which grossed meout abit. i would give it a ten out of ten because i have not seen many thrillers as good as this one A+++
Another haunted house movie. A few different elements in this one and starring Kate Hudson in a non comedic or light romantic role for which she is better known. Hudson plays a practical and strong minded young hospice worker,Caroline Ellis who is intent on earning enough money to attend nursing school. She takes on a job as the resident caretaker and live in carer of an isolated plantation manor outside New Orleans where she is entrusted with a skeleton key that unlocks all the various doors. Hudson of course discovers the mandatory hidden door in the attic and soon finds herself encountering strange occurrences. Not nearly frightening or mysterious enough but some interesting bits.
a very silly and obvious movie which at no point really allowed me to get into it and really care about any of the characters as the plot was pretty much spelled out within the first ten minutes. the other annoying thing about this film is the type casting of peter solberg as the baddie as like basically almost any other movie hes in, not really even worth a watch.
This movie was pretty good, it was an okay for the scare but nothing amazing. Then again, there aren't many good scary movies anymore. The ending wasn't what I had thought would happen and it didn't ruin the movie. Which is really good, because if the ending ruins the movie it's usually hated by many people.
This is a weird weird movie, kate hudson really hasnt landed huge parts so shes not that well known which is generally quite agood thing when it ocmes to horrors and she acted quite well, she dives into some voodoo magic stuff going on, i thought the ending was really awesome beacuse you wouldnt expect it to be that
