This is an excellent film, well worth watching. It's a romantic comedy in disguise as a rollicking period piece and it does a fairly good job at both. The leads are fine, and Dench is regal if brief. Ben Affleck (Ben Affleck!) puts in avery good supporting performance, as does Geoffrey Rush - in fact the gallery of supporting players is excellent. The script is funny and clever (especially if you know Shakespeare's work). Recommended.

It didn't quite reach its potential but it still contained the same bawdiness that littered shakespeares plays. It was extremely witty, it sometimes predictable, and had all the elements of a play.

Certain actors didn't quite live up to the part but the strength of the other actors makes up for it.

A thematic classic!

Typical Hollywood mess, a would be witty and sophisticated battle of the sexes costumer that is undone by a severe sense of its own importance and the simpering presence of Gwenyth Paltrow who somehow won an academy award. One of those movies that has quite a few things going for it but just can't seem to captialise on them.
