Al Pacino plays a CIA agent who recruits James Clayton (Colin Farrell) because he's a highly intelligent prospect. Also, Clayton's father was in the CIA. Clayton falls in love with Layla. She is another candidate he meets while in training. She is supposedly a mole try to access information and Clayton is assigned to follow her.
I thought this was a highly entertaining movie and I had fun trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Anyone who likes spy movies or thrillers will more than likely enjoy this film.
The Recruit is a very good movie! I liked the story of the film but I had a little bit of trouble to understand what's going on with the story but I understood better at the end of the movie. I think Colin Farrell is an excellent actor and sexy!! 4 out of 5 stars!
The Recruit has too many sub-plots and twists and turns. Pacino takes on the role as a CIA recruiter with a vengeance. Colin Farrell is spectacular as the recruit. His CIA girl friend (Moynahan) is extremely sexy, but Farrell manages to steal the scenes from her, one by one. It's directed with plenty of drama, mystery and intrigue. But there's something wrong with the movie? Could it be the studio? Or the writing? Don't know, I wasn't there. What I do know is that it's a great idea, but someone along the way messed it up big-time. If I was Pacino, I would have final say on the script and final cut. He must have been fuming. To make him do a Scarface sort of thing was absolutely pathetic. When the movie was over I felt cheated. Out of my DVD money and out of a good ending.
The Recruit is a political thriller from the same director who brought us No Way Out and Thirteen Days. With that kind of pedigree plus Al Pacino on board our expectations for this movie were pretty high. And although the film didn't quite live up to expectations, it is still quite entertaining.
Al Pacino in The RecruitColin Farrell co-stars as James Clayton. He's at the top of his class at MIT and being recruited by big companies seeking his skills. However, another type of "company" comes calling. Enter Pacino as CIA agent Walter Burke, a man with a self proclaimed hell of an eye for talent, and he wants Clayton for the Agency.
He gets his man, and we follow James' progress and get a look at CIA training procedures which include not only physical skills but lots of mind games. Burke tells the recruits that "nothing is as it seems", and "everything is a test". Pretty soon the story takes us down a path where neither the characters or the audience are quite sure what's real and what's not.
Do not overanalyze this movie as there are enough illogical bits and technical errors in it to drive you nuts. If anyone believes CIA training remotely resembles anything you see here, please contact me about my Montana beach property. And the speed with which we see CIA computers getting hacked including watching the way in which they do it will drive anyone with a hacking background or just good technical knowledge nuts.
But if you put your brain in neutral and just sit back and enjoy the show, what you'll find in The Recruit is what will be a very under-rated Al Pacino performance. He does a wonderful job with this character and is the highlight of the movie. But he makes this kind of role look so easy, that he doesn't get much credit for the strength of the performance. However, if you're a Pacino fan or you just like a good spook movie, there are a lot worse ways to spend a couple of hours.
well yeah another one of those formulaic movies where you know exactly whats going to happen and you know your probably going to be dissapointed at the end of it. yep that pretty much sums up this movie starring al pacino and colin farrel as cia espionage type things where someone is a double agent or a traitor of some sort, i give it two stars.
The recruit is is a great film that keeps you thinking what's real and what's just a mind play from your superiors to test if you are strong enough to be working for them.It was filled with intense action and story line. There are a lot of twists and turns that make you constantly change your mind about about who are really the good guys and who are the bad ones.A great film not to be misssed.
A complicated thriller with lots of twists and turns. Colin Farrell plays a young man recruited by Al Pacino for a special CIA taskforce. The movie takes us tthrough Farrell's training and the other recruits he meets along the way. Taut with tension, the intrigue never lets up. Pacino plays his usual enigmatic and forceful self, sweeping all before him with his usual strong presence. Farrell is capable in his role. Some of the storyline is doubtful and suspends belief but overall quite a good thriller.
A young hotshot who seems to have everything happening for him is approached by a shady FBI agent who wants to recruit him. He agrees looking for thrills but soon finds himself in the midst of something altogether more complex. Story wise The Recruit isn't great or even very original but it does have good performances.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, the highlights being the faultless performance by Al Pacino. Colin Farrell was also rather impressive, this being the first film I'd ever seen him in. The plot was wonderful, full of twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. A worthwhile movie to hire!
