Veteran western director Andrew V. McLaglen puts his brand on this exciting story, based on America's acquisition of English Hereford cattle (which would phase out Texan longhorns). In the 1880s, Englishwoman Martha Price (Maureen O'Hara) and her daughter Hilary (Juliet Mills) come to America to sell their prize Hereford bull at an auction. When he is purchased by Bowen, a wild Scotsman (Brian Keith), the women hire a footloose cowhand named Burnett (James Stewart) to help them transport the animal to its new owner. So begins an adventure that tests the mettle of all involved as they battle killers, cattle stampedes - and each other. But when they reach Bowen's ranch, even greater obstacles force them to summon up extraordinary courage if they, and the prize bull, are to survive.

a Rare Breed is exactly that, a top notch film which is hard to find these days, probably why i tried out this blast from the past. Highly recommended Stewart is good but my favourite party was Jack elams appearance, a true western fans man. Great stuff for western lovers and those who like good films
I give it 5 stars it is just so great, the story line kept on going even after it finished just running in my head over and over and over again, I love this movie and you will to you should definitely buy this DVD.
Westerns just take me away, it is an action packed classic full of shoot ups and gun fights, it is an amazing movie, I have this in my collection and you do to, This movie is an absolute classic no collection is complete without it.
