When evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter discovers prehistoric creatures alive and well in the present day the natural world is turned on its head and humanity faces a threat to its very existence. Unexplained anomalies are ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages of Earth's development to roam the modern world.
This is a Region 4 disc, the local region for New Zealand.
We have watched this series right from the beginning and it never fails to entertain. The producers don't rely solely on special effects as a series like this all too easily can; there is plenty of characterisation and interplay between the characters. I suppose sooner or later the writers will run out of ideas but the last time I watched I still enjoyed it.
After my initial scepticism that the makers of this series probably wouldn't produce anything worth watching with the subject matter chosen, I found myself sitting down to watch each programme with expectations of being thoroughly entertained. With creatures from the distant past abruptly appearing in modern-day Britain through a time-warp called an anomaly, viewers had to expect that sooner or later the heroes battling to send the creatures back to their own time and close the anomaly would be killed and it's sad when your favourite character disappears. But I suspect this helps to make a programme like this more complex and therefore more watchable.
