Roman Polanski's remarkable, Oscar and Palme D'Or winning film The Pianist tells the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody). Managing to survive in the Krakow ghetto while the vast majority of the Jewish population have been transported to concentration camps, Szpilman leads a lonely, dangerous existence sheltering in abandoned houses. Directed by a film artist who lived through the times it depicts, Polanski's matter of fact storytelling style makes this one of the most haunting of Holocaust-themed films and it features an indelible central performance by the Academy Award's choice of Best Actor in 2003, Adrien Brody.

What a fantastic movie. It is truly moving.
As well as following the plight of the people trapped in the Warsaw Ghetto it also follows the turmoil that was Warsaw at that time in history. After seeing this film I find it amazing that there is still a city there!
A must see for anyone with an interest in War or Eastern Europe.
A haunting movie that captures the emotions and doesn't let go. The double-disc edition also has a heap of special features, including a wonderful documentary called "Story of Survival" where you catch glimpses of the real Wladyslaw Szpilman. Adrian Brody and Roman Polanski definitely desered their oscars for this one!
i loved this movie it is acurate and entertaining like most of the pre and post WW2 stories it is sad. but a good story non the less. they choice the right actor and the right attidue for him to have. i enjoyed it and will be happy to see it again.
A jewish man in nazi germany is found hiding in an abandoned hospital. His story, as we discover is an interesting one, as he has been in hiding for the duration of war, having been saved through a stroke of luck. He is,a world class pianist, but this is a life he is left with nothing but time to recall during his long period in hiding.
A gruelling but powerful film from the very talented Roman Polanski whose contraversiality has often overshadowed his talent in recent years. The Pianist tells the story of a young piano player who eascapes from the Germans in war torn Poland by hiding in abandonded houses. Bleak and powerful, heavy going but assuredly told and presented.
