It's Halloween, 1991. Near Gloucester, Massachusetts, the six members of the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, head out to sea for their last trip of the season. Unbeknownst to them, a shockingly brutal storm is slowly gaining steam. Before the National Weather Bureau has a chance to inform the crew of the impending danger, it's too late. The resulting battle with three merging weather fronts--an unheralded natural disaster--is grueling and tragic. Based on the true-life best selling novel by Sebastian Junger, The Perfect Storm stars George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and is directed by Wolfgang Petersen.

there is not really and excuse for stupity and to be honesty, and no disrespect to those who died, but the refusal of the captaim to turn back in an obviously bad storm is just that. Performance wise a fairly good good done by George Clooney however there is a noticeable forebooding throughout the entire film. Only watch it to the end to say that I did. 1 out of 10 for me
I abosulty loved this movie fulled with action adventure. This movie makes you feel like you are their watching this all fold out. The actors were great george clooney and mark warberg do a fantastic job in this movie. Very sad at the end. But I would recommend this for a movie collection. Great movie to watch.
Like many a good story that Hollywood gets in paws onto the Perfect Storm could have been a fantastic movie. But in true Hollywood flopbuster style they try to outdo themselves and fail miserably.
The movie is poorly cast, for me George Clooney is miscast in anything other than a coma patient or corpse.
Over the top and dull til the end one to skip unless you're a sucker for those they deem blockbusters.
This is not as bad as I feared. I would never have watched it except that it was mentioned twice in a noncommittal way in a book I had just finished reading, Stuart Pimm's The World According to Pimm: A Scientist Audits the Earth (2001). It starts out like something from any of half a dozen big project Hollywood directors, e.g., James Cameron (Titanic) or Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat), with faux realism and intrusive atmospheric sights and sounds and bits of background sound-bite conversations played too loud. I'm already shifting in my seat when I realize that Wolfgang Petersen, who produced and directed The Perfect Storm is none other than the very same Wolfgang Petersen who produced and directed the internationally acclaimed German language classic, Das Boot (1981), one of the best war movies of all time. So now I'm thinking, how bad can this be?
Turns out that The Perfect Storm is one of those movies that can't decide whether it's a man's action flick or a woman's relationship saga. Petersen spends an inordinate amount of time giving each of his crew members some kind of relationship before sending them off into the mother of all storms, reminding me of movies where the guys go away to war and the women stay behind keeping the home fires burning. Enough time is spent in the bar to make me think we're watching "Cheers" or we're on shore leave before the final assault. Strange thing about this is that Petersen, in making Das Boot, didn't care in the slightest about establishing relationships or engaging the female audience. But times have changed. Today's Hollywood director knows that to get people into the theaters you've got to make sure that women's issues and interests are addressed.
With all due respect to the people who actually died in real life – this is a pretty boring movie. It’s so gung-ho in it’s presentation that it’s almost embarrassing but I guess that Hollywood will try to glamorize anything these days. I mean it’s a fishing expedition for god’s sakes and their cutting these characters with the same template that they use for mercenary missions. As far as the movie itself it’s a bit of a downer really.
Not the worst movie ive ever seen but not that great, it was extremly predictable which takes alot of the funo out of it, george clooneys acting was alright but not enough to make this a great movie, it was all that much fun to watch either, wouldnt recomend it
This is one of the best movies i have ever seen. it is just sooo entertaing i could watch it again and again. I recommend this to any one that lovea a goood dramam with a lot a high quality action. This is a A+ movie that i ahve to give a ten out of ten just because of its extreme quality!
One reason to watch this movie, Mark Walberg!!
He is the guy in this movie you wish you could just say hey dont do that or this, George Coonley is also good in this and yes the story just lead in one direction you can tell what is on the horizon, still worth it!!!
This is an excellent movie that should nto be in the drama section it should be in the action or thirller because its shit scary and is really exciting, musch more so than alot of aciton films, relaly worth while watching as its such an unpredictable movie, and alot of what would you do? sort of stuff going on
the main problem with the movie is that i knew about the ending before hand which made it a total waste of my time due to the extremity of the ending. It has some alright disaster set pieces but nothing that original or extraordinary and despite the good cast only mildly good performances. Pretty meh
