Based on a Philip K. Dick short story, Minority Report is about a cop in the future working in a division of the police department that arrests killers before they commit the crimes courtesy of some future viewing technology. Cruise's character has the tables turned on him when he is accused of a future crime and must find out what brought it about and stop it before it can happen .
MINORITY REPORT is a futuristic thriller from Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, the head of Washington's Pre-Crime bureau, an experimental government agency that uses precognitive humans to predict murders. Finding himself accused of a future homicide, Anderton goes on the run and tries to stay one step ahead of his jet pack-assisted colleagues and an ambitious Federal agent (Colin Farrell). This is one of Spielberg's most sheerly entertaining and deliriously imaginative movies.
Synopsis
Superstar Tom Cruise gives his "most potent action performace" (David Ansen, Newsweek) in director Steven Spielberg's "sharpest, brawniest, most bustling entertainment since Raiders of the Lost Ark" (Richard Corliss, Time).
For six years, Washington D.C. has been murder free thanks to astounding technology which identifies killers before they commit their crimes. But when the chief of the Precrime Unit (Cruise) is himself accused of a future murder, he has just 36 hours to discover who set him up - or he'll fall victim to the "perfect" system he helped create. It's a mind blowing action thriller that's such an achievement, it "reminds us why we go to the movies in the first place" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).

Steven Spielberg is a genius. So many great films he has directed. The Man who created "Jaws" "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindlers List" is back for more. In one of his best pictures yet.
It's 2054. A new method of crime prevention "pre-crime" allows the police to look into the future and see the horrific results of murder and rape as they unfold. After a quick introduction to this process, were straight into the big and bold; main man John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is accused of a future murder- to a man he's never heard of. So he's on the run, from a harsh detective (superbly played by Colin Farrell) as he uncovers some horrible truths and has to go back to the unwelcoming past.
Minority report is very good, but also very disturbing- the fact that this film was a PG-13 or a "12" in England is shocking. Parents, a note: if your child is under 12 at least I would strongly recommend you watch this film first. It's dark, compelling, and disturbing- particularly in a scene where he has to exchange his eyes for protection...
This is a fantastic film however that should be viewed and loved by everyone bold enough to come in its path. Never fail to believe: Spielberg has come up with yet another masterpiece.
You have to watch this movie in the cinema and have as little spoiler knowledge about it to truly appreciate how original this movie really is. I saw this movie when it first came out in the cinema, and was completely blown away by the storyline. It's not your predictable everyday sci-fi movie, and the characters are really engaging, especially the character Tom Cruise plays.
I really loved this noir and would highly recommend it to everyone. One of Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise's better collaborations.
If your not a tom cruise fan then give this one a miss. Personally i think he is overrated so couldnt appreciate this movie where quite a few people seemed to love it. Afraid I just couldn't. Great guy who everyone seems to like though has a troubled past gets set up and has to prove his innocence.. seen it before becoming a little cliche now. Bit of a twist with the whole 'future' thing but hey.. one for the sci-fi fans
this movie proves just how much of a fantastic actor tom cruise really is. the man really makes a movie really worth watching, is an undeniable fact. minority report is steven stelberg's best achieve ment in years, and the clever fast paced plot will keep you interested until the very end. five stars!
This movie is full of full of amazing fight sequences, that never stop entertaining and thrilling the audience. The factory fight was cool, the car hopping scene exhilarating, the jetpacks were used in a more original and inventive way than they normally are in films, and those robotic spiders kicked some ass. The fight/action sequences are original and intriguing and not just your standard sequences. The special effects were terrific in the way I could barely tell they were actually special effects, they go right in with the movie and feel very natural.
Yes, yes and yes!! You will definitely want to have this one in your collection!!! It really is fantatsic. Lots of twist and turns and while futuristic, is not totally "out there"- if you know what I mean! Tom Cruise does his character justice. All in all, simply fab... 5 stars from me!
This film is simply Speilberg's finest hour. He will never top this, and yes I know I'm talking about the man who directed Jaws, ET, Close Encounters, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List etc. This film has everything - breathtaking and groundbreaking special effects, a fabulous cast with superb performances (Cruise's finest since 'Born on the 4th of July' which was a tour de force) and an intricate byzantine plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. And I defy anyone to understand the incredibly complex and fast moving story the first time. But that's perfect as everytime I viewed it, it was as visually thrilling and exciting as the first time. An absolute classic, thoroughly compelling, gripping, engaging and stunning from start to finish.
this is another great movie from steven spielberg! this tells of the future (which is always interesting to see peoples ideas on what the future will be like) of a time where people can predict crimes before they happen. then one of the police type men learns that he will be predicting a crime in the future! excellent stuff!
Minority Report is an great movie. Takes place in the future which is always fun to see. This movie fell into so many categories-but, it was not a bad thing. The story line stays the same, but the movie keeps you going. There are so many different situations and the whole story of the movie is different, and good. Just the right amount of suspense and action.
The best film to date so far this year as of 8/02! This film is about a John (Tom Cruise) who is haunted by the disappearance of his young son many years ago. To cope with the grief he works at a crime pervanetion network founded by Lamar Burgess (Max Von Sydow) that can predict murders and stop them before they occur. However, one day while at work Tom Cruise is shocked to discover that it is saying he will be the next person to try and commit murder. John thinks that an agent named Danny (Colin Farrell) who is investigating the the unit is trying to set him up. To add to the problems, the person John is accused of trying to murder is a person he does not even know and it says John will kill him in 48 hours.
Fast paced, exciting and deeply moving & thought provoking film. Tom Crusie does good work here. Colin turns in a deliciously nasty performance. However the film belongs to Max Von Sydow who is absolutely genius here. Director Speilberg treats the audience to some highly original and creative visual effects and has presented us with a fun story that covers all the bases. The ending is especially good.
