The year was 1974, a young man, Philippe Petit, was about to commit the artistic crime of the century, 1350 feet in the air...
On a slightly windy day in the summer of 1974, a lone figure appeared high above the heads of the people of Manhattan, balancing perfectly on a high wire strung between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. For almost an hour, the performer danced on the wire, ignoring the pleas from police to get down, simply rejoicing in his artistic expression. Combining archival footage and dramatic re-enactment Man on Wire is a spectacle of human achievement, tenacity and sheer amazement.
1974. 1350 feet up. The artistic crime of the century.
An amusing and engaging look at tightrope walker Philippe Petits daring, but illegal, high wire routine performed between New York Citys World Trade Centre twin towers in 1974. This documentary plays like a heist film, with as much anxiety and daring going into planning as the feat itself. Youll laugh, gasp and shake your head with amazement at Petits stunt, often referred to as the artistic crime of the century

This is a brilliant doco. Phillipe Petit is such a focused and driven personality as well as being a born performer that he is captivating to watch in some of the old footage. The re-enactments are very good and watching the amazing way that they set up the big walk are just insane. Its just amazing that these guys ever managed to pull off such an amazing feat.
The extras in this as well are interesting in that they show in detail how Petit set up the walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
