A gentle, whimsical comedy, this would not be everyone's cup of tea but we really enjoyed the antics and especialy the philosophising of these three older men, who have little else to do but get into trouble! Pity the series didn't last very long when it was shown in Australia many years ago.

Great TV series, love the silly old men. Basically they are retired gentlement who no longer have any plans or wives to control them so they move about the local village like little school boys. Wonderful UK humour, just like the old series like 'the Good Life' or 'the Manor Born', will get you laughing. It is also one of the longest running TV series in the UK and is still going. Recommend it for anyone especially if you need to get a gift for an older relative.

All I can say about this series is that it is English comedy and acting at it's VERY BEST. A must for lovers of good humour and the extra of a beautiful setting, filmed superbly. JUST EXCELLENT!

My father got me hooked on this series, after he mentioned how much he enjoyed it. A local PBS station was running it, and I just fell in love with the three old men and their antics. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Peter Sallis is also the voice of Wallace, as in "Wallace & Grommit" -- another personal favorite. My biggest frustration is that our PBS station stopped running it, the BBC has only released one set of tapes, and that is criminal for a show that's been on the air for 30 years! For gentle, character driven comedies, this show cannot be beat. Also, the scenery is beautiful. All those rural, rustic shots of the English countryside are gorgeous.

Bill Owen as the scruffy, working class "Compo" was hilarious... Peter Sallis plays the other stalwart character of the trio, Norman Clegg, a quietly spoken middle class man... Cyril Blamire is played in this series by Michael Bates as an upper crust wannabe- the clashes between he and Compo are hilarious (Compo often refers to him as 'a poof' - in this context, an effete snob)... The music by Paul Hart and Joe Campbell is beautiful too, capturing the sense of nostalgia and beauty the show grasps so well...

British humour at its best. I love these guys and Im a young-in. I only wish that Im as explorative, curious and crazy as these guys when I retire. Good clean watching though the humour is cheeky at time. Quick witted that keeps you forever laughing.

Oh these guys in Last of the Summer Wine are extremely classic. I remember my grandparents waiting for it to come on TV so they could sit down with their diners on their knee and burst out laughing. That was also true to my own parents and myself. They are just a classic bunch of senior citizens still in the prime of their lives in Britain. Definitely worth watching.
