one with so much of miyazaki`s trademark flying, and boy/girl heroes. he brings up ideas of compassion and good and bad. as always with miyazaki`s celebration of females - his female characters are just as strong and independent as their male counterparts, and all are memorable. the follows the adventure of two children who discover their courage, heart and self-belief.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky is an enchanting film offered by the ever wonderful Studio Ghibli. Whilst I will agree that it is not my absolute favourite of their works, it certainly rates high - if you are wanting a movie that is packed to the brim with adventure though, you won't get it. This movie takes its time, and feels like it.

Although this is good film, like all offerings from Studio Ghibli, this one did leave me unsatisfied. I don't feel the story is developed properly and the main characters not as engaging they could be (as in Nausicaa, Spirited Away). However, it is still a sweet and fun film, with the epic scale and imaginative beauty one expects of a Miyazaki film. This one is unusual because it plays with a wild west movie style and plot.

If you like animation you will love this film. The story of a boy who is searching for the mythical land of Laputa based upon the observations of his father and a girl who is being chased by thieves and the army because of her connection to Laputa. The children show courage and maturity as they adventure together. It is another amazing story from the team at Ghibli.
