Suffering JOHN SAFRAN VERSUS GOD, sees apostles of Buddhism, Catholicism, Judaism, Mormonism, Racism, Islam, Scientology and Voodoo under Safran’s magnifying glass. But it’s Safran himself who often feels the heat.
Confessing Safran visits a radical extreme Muslim cleric to see if he will place a fatwa on the head of a popular Australian television identity.
Masturbating Safran confesses to, as a young man, masturbating in the bed of a Catholic priest - and is forgiven by the very priest whose bed he slept in.
Something “I’m definitely pro-religion, more so than anti-religion,” Safran reveals. “I constantly feel like I’m going to get into trouble for the things I do, even if there’s no logical reason for me to get into trouble"
Exorcism The sins of Safran are finally dealt with in the dramatic series finale, when John has his demons cast out in a bizarre but perhaps necessary Christian exorcism.

John Safran Vs. God is a lot better than some of his previous outings, especially the pretentiousness of the boring John Safran's Musical Jamboree. Here, John Safran sets out to make fun of those pesky religious types, but he is nowhere near as clever as he thinks he is, because really, there's little sport in making fun of Mormons and Jehovas Witnesses (or any God-fearing person for that matter) - why not satirise something a little less obvious?
This is a witty and insightful view into the created institutions that we know as religion. John Safran road tests the worlds most popular (and some not so popular such as the payote religion) and the viewers get to vote on which religion he should officially choose. Safran is surprisingly not an athiest, but an occassionally practising Jew (in an interesting twist). Father Bob is not to be missed in this documentary (with the help of Safran, Father Bob is becoming one of the most famous religious identities in Australia). Do not miss this one! Or you will regret it!
This is a sometimes profound , very controversial and always hilarious series which delves into the world of organised religion; everything from witch doctors to Hindu priests to fatwa-wielding Mullahs are spoken to, as John Safran travels around the world to show viewers what each religion looks like in its natural habitat. Each episode also ends with a hilarious final word from John, where he vents his spleen on some religious issue or another. Though this series is mainly for comedic purposes, it does raise questions about the value of organised religion, and the mind-set of the followers, though mostly in a gentle, poking-fun sort of way. Great entertainment all up, though if you are from any religion and you take it seriously, you will be offended at some point.
john safran is really a funny guy. his show music jamboree was way better than this one though, but i think that that might just be because i love music so much, and it was just a really good show. this show is good too, but i think that it need segments and stuff like that, other than that it is a pretty good show.
