Jaws is one of those great movies that I can watch over and over again without loosing interest, so I just had to buy the 30th Anniversary Edition. I enjoyed the movie very much and the first time I watched it I was much younger, but it realy scared me that much that I wouldn'd go near the water for months.
Although it misrepresents true shark behavior, this film is pretty entertaining. The dramatic elements are off-set well with the action sequences, and the overall structure of the film is nicely balanced (even though it is quite long).
Robert Shaw is probably the highlight character, and Roy Scheider is pretty good as Chief Brody. Richard Dreyfuss is just as good as Hooper, who is the "rational" voice of the film, (opposing Quint's recklessness). The scene where Hooper tires to prove his way onto the "Orca's" crew is worth the sitting alone - it is ridiculously hilarious.
Spielberg used his resources effectively, and there are no real cop-out scenes or short-cuts taken within the story. The real threat of the shark becomes apparent suitably, and you suddenly feel as if there is real danger for the crew, however see-through the dramatic devices/special effects are.
Ahhh who didn't love Bruce aka Jaws?. The waters of the world are terrifying enough to a great majority of the world's population without the viewing of a movie like Jaws. Given when it was made and by whom this movie is a great movie. As a child this movie gave me the heebie jeebies though watching it now, just as the Disneyland ride it's easy to decipher the mechanical beast. One of those classic movies that I hope is never touched by the greedy hands of Hollywood in a poor remake attempt.
One of the greatest movies of all time is back in the spotlight as the 30th anniversary edition is released with a nice slip case and more bonus footage. Those who don't own this movie should. But those who own the 25th anniversary edition probably shouldn't worry about this one. Sure there's more bonus material, but not a lot, and certainly not the sort of material you'll watch more than once. All other bonus features are on the previous release.
The peaceful community of Amity island is being terrorised. There is something in the sea that is attacking swimmers. They can no longer enjoy the sea and the sun as they used to, and the spreading fear is affecting the numbers of tourists that are normally attracted to this island. After many attempts the great white shark won't go away and sheriff Brody, with friends Hooper and Quint decide to go after the shark and kill it.
i made the mistake of watching the first jaws movie right after watching deep blue sea. both had basically the same story line: scary sharks gone wild, but it is to be expected that being made years before really good special effects had been developed, the effects are terrible. still, an ok movie
this is a great movie! really scary, i know heaps of people that this film has made cautious of the water! there are heaps of gripping action scenes in here, as the shark pops up from the water and gives you a real fright! some of the acting leaves a bit to be desired, but overall the film as a whole is excellent.
I had nightmares for days after watching this movie. It's quite scary for someone that doesn't really like this kind of movie. I didn't think it was going to be this bad, so that's why I watched it. But never again. It's not that it's a bad movie as in made bad, only bad in the fact that it's quite scary. If you like this kind of thing, then you'll enjoy it. My hubbie likes these kind of movies, so he's welcome to watch them - on his own
"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water". This tagline is one that will follow the film forever and rightly so. This film is one to see just because of the big plastic shark. Jaws is billed as one of the scariest film in marine film history, and generally it is if you don't expet the shark to look completely realistic, it does put you off swimming in the sea though.
Jaws" is a thrill-ride of suspense that continues to deliver the goods to the audience 25 years later. The plot is somewhat thin: a large shark is terrorizing the tourists at the local beach. However, with that said Steven Spielberg's direction is amazing. The young director (only 28 at the time) showed unlimited potential that would only increase with age. A great accomplishment that could have been a multi-million dollar bust.
