The film is a good representation of the novel. They will always leave out stuff from the novel but overall it was very well done. The actress playing Salander is excellent. She carries off Salander's anti hero character with great skill.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film and look forward to the next instalment.

Don't be deterred by the sub-titles,this film is a beauty. If you are a fan of the book you need to see the Swedish version as it contains all the atmosphere, culture, countryside and characters that made the trilogy of books such a success.A lot of the peripheral issues are removed such as Blomquist's love affair with Erica Berger but the film is the better for it as it then just concentrates on the nuts and bolts of the story.
Noomi Rapace is brilliant as Lisbeth Salander and brings the right mix of violence and insecurity to her role. Her revenge on her guardian is extreme but well deserved and may shock some viewers.Nothing is left out. Michael Nyquist has been criticised for his role as Blomquist but I thought he was perfect. He has that world weary appearance of a seasoned journalist who thinks he has seen it all.
Do your self a favour, buy this movie and enjoy a superb thriller filmed in the country where it was set, acted by first class people from that country and directed by a renowned Scandinavian.
You won't regret your purchase and it will surely whet your appetite for the next installment in this thrilling trilogy.

My Swedish friend brought me the first book for my birthday and then i brought the other two myself. Watched the movie at the cinema and it's totally how I had it in my head. My friend has told me they have made the other two books into movies too. can't wait to see them. There is an extended version on Sweden but it's not sub-titled. Would recommend to any one - books and movie.

The movie is great, I would recommend reading the books first. Much of the scenery and many of the characters are just as I imagined in the book. Obviously a lot of the detail in the book can't be covered in under 2 hours but this Swedish movie does a marvellous job. I hate to say but it is difficult to see how Hollywood can get this right! A joy to watch and a great price thanks Fishpond. Lisbeth Salander is my hero!

I have not heard of the books and stumbled accidently across the movie's advertising in our local 'off beat' movie theatre. It is a truly amazing story very well described in previous ratings. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and the subtitles were not a problem at all.

I went and saw this at the movies not knowing what I was getting myself in to. I had never heard of the books or the film, and while I agree with the the customer who said it is a bit too long, I don't think that it is a reason to crticize the film. After reading the book I understand why it needed to be so long.
The film is about a journalist who is set up and charged with libel. Blomkvist is hired by an industry tycoon to solve the murder of his niece who dissapeared 40 years ago. Along the way a young hacker / cyber-punk Lisbeth Sander gets drawn in to the affair.
The character of Lisbeth sander is private and completely paranoid, her persona translates very well from book to film. This is one that I can't call on wether I like the book or film more, they are both amazing in their own ways, and the film introduces the characters of Salanda and Blomkvist earlier on and makes a few improvements. Check out both the book and film, you won't be dissapointed.

I attended the Cast and Crew screening on Sunday, in Leicester Square, with high hopes for this film as it's without doubt the most exciting job I've had. This was my first feature experience, and working for Tim Burton was a hell of a way to start.
But, even asmsical characters. This film grounds them, drains them of that mystery and leaves us with a colourful but forgettable retread. It seems intent on driving us to a narrative conclusion that few people will have had much stake in through its running time, simply because we're not giving much to care for.
With a source material so familiar, even to those whose knowledge is second hand references, there needs to be a degree of innovation (as in Svenkmejer's dark stop-motion version, or the co-opting of Terry Gilliam in to his "Tideland" narrative), or else a studious and inspired adaptation that completely returns to Lewis Carroll. What we end up with is a mid-point that fails to get to grips with what enchants people about the Alice story, and another chance to see a beautiful waif walk around twisted, quasi-Gothic landscapes to a score by Danny Elfman.
Not that this isn't an enjoyable experience in itself, and as seen in the vast Screen 1 at the Empire it is at times breathtakingly pretty. It's just inessential, and while it may be unfair to expect a classic from a favoured filmmaker every time out, when they tackle something with the pedigree and history of Alice In Wonderland you can't help but hope for something special. And that's the problem, that Tim Burton, while he is still making decent films, has been a long way off special for some time now.
6/10 (if they gave half stars it'd be 6.5), but that doesn't mean it's a bad film. It's possible that my grade is affected by high expectations and lost potential. If you have kids, I'm sure it'll be better than 90% of the dross that passes for family films now. At least there is some artistry involved, and while he might not be at his best I'll still always pay to see a Tim Burton film (although I got this one for free...)
