I very much love the Final Fantasy franchise of games, and expected quite a lot when I rented this movie out from the DVD store, but I was greatly disappointed by the storyline and the character development.
The story follows off from the game, and follows the life of Cloud and the others after the events in Final Fantasy 7(?)
This movie is exactly like watching a game played in movielike format. Entertaining in parts, but as a whole movie, rather lacking, as you fail to emphathise with any of the characters.
The graphics I admit are rather stunning, but other than pretty pictures, I'm afraid this movie didn't quite cut the mustard for me.

Based several years after the game ended, Cloud must once again play the role of a hero. It is helpful, but not vital that you have played the game, as the story here is independant, and very weak at that. More of an excuse to have grossly over the top action scenes, all in breath taking computer animation. Fans of the game will get a kick out of this, but look elsewhere if you want a more constructed plot.

I love this movie, and I think any FFVII fan would. The graphics are truly amazing high tech top of the line! It's quite a short simple story but to go back to the places in FFVII brings back memories! Finally you get to see what Cloud really looks like instead of a blur animated face made up of large square pixels!

Huh?? What?? Yes it all looks very pretty and there are some fairly entertaining actions scenes but what the hell is going on?? I could not follow the story at all but I guess that's my own stupid fault for not having played a 10 year old Playstation game through to the end -skip this unless you are a total Final Fantasy junkie otherwise it probably won't make any sense to you.

What is there to say about this movie? This movie is simply gorgeous. A true feast for the eyes. In the same way that the game set the standard for 3D role playing games 7 years ago, this movie sets the standard for future CG movies. Many of you have seen the trailers and the amazing details in every frame and let me tell you this movie does not disappoint. You can actually see the fibers in Cloud's sweater vest.
The music is also very good. The movie contains several rearranged tracks from the video game that fans will definitely recognize and appreciate.
The movie's main weakness is its story. Its not exactly a bad story, but this story is exclusively aimed for people who have played the video game. First time viewers may feel lost at times, or they may not notice the significance of certain events.
I recommend this movie to everyone, even if you've never played the game because what we have here is a special movie. Watch it and enjoy the the beautiful film

I didn't really get this film. but then I must admit that I spent half the film trying to figure out when it was set. it would have helped if I had actually clocked final fantasy. a come back of some old characters. but I warn you. if you know about final fantasy then do not watch this. it will no sense at all.

This movie continues the story of final fantasy VII (arguably the best RPG ever), and while it has its moments (for instance the cell phone of a character in the movie has the old final fantasy game battle music as a ring tone), overall I found it slightly disappointing. There is lots of action, which involves impossible maneuvers, however it’s not that impressive when its computer generated. Only for major FFVII fans.

: Set two years after the end of Final Fantasy VII, it continues the story of Cloud and co., as they find they have to take up arms again against a band of three white-haired youths bent on finding the last Jenova cells and who wreak havoc and kidnap children along the way, whilst Cloud struggles to come to terms with the guilt he has carried all these years.
It's an absolutely shining achievement in the field of computer animation, with the characters looking beautiful and moving like a dream, which is important as the majority of the movie consists of fight scenes. The story is a bit thin, and if you haven't played the game there's a good chance you won't know what's going on at all, even despite the re-cap extra provided. The voice acting in both languages is passable; the Japanese may be a little better than the English, however. In all, lots of fun and nostalgia for those who have fond memories of Final Fantasy VII, but this one is strictly for the fans, unfortunately.
