I thought this was a great movie! I was going to give this a 7 originally, but then I realized that Walt Disney made it and this way better than all the other original movies Disney's been making lately. So good job, Disney! Brilliant movie! The Sorcerer's Apprentice reminded me of various movies. To name a few, we have Percy Jackson, Night at the Museum, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior and a tad bit of Harry Potter. This movie had mythological events, a villain who came from this closed up space, a kid who didn't know anything and just plain magic. I thought it was a good combination.
This movie was good. It had adventure, good solid leading characters and subtly mixed into the movie was a slight dose of humor. At first I thought that Jay Baruchel was awkward, but I saw that his awkwardness worked well. Maybe it's because Dave is also seen as a generally awkward kid. What I didn't like about the plot line was that useless Becky Barnes. Sorry, but I just didn't like her. I mean, she was okay when they were younger, but then.. I don't know. I just stopped liking her as the movie progressed.
I also found the whole last fighting scene kind of weird. In my opinion, I think Cage should have died. Not because he wasn't a good actor (he was actually the best!), but because if he died, it would have given the movie much more impact and lots more morals and values would be learned.
I did not like the ending. Sorry, but I didn't. Maybe it could have shown Dave and Balthazar, hugging each other? Or maybe the whole gang, celebrating? I just didn't like the Dave/Becky ending. Other than that, it was a good and fun movie. :)
