This movie probably shows Stanley Kubrick at his lowest, being nothing more than a high-brow porn flick starring big name Hollywood actors. Only Kubrick would have the clout to get otherwise "classy" actors such as our own Nic to get their togs off for the cameras. Nonsensical plot, lots of jiggly bits and Tom Cruise in the buff... something for everybody! Not.

This film was vastly misunderstood, by many critics, and by most audiences (the trailer showing a naked Nicole and Tom making out didn't help people's expectations). But it is a haunting, demanding, masterpiece. Yes, it explains too much (I am sure if Kubrick had lived he would have cut the "explanatory" scene near the end between Cruise and Pollack). But as a rumination on marriage, commitment and sexual (in)fidelity, it is unparalleled Truly wonderful.
