It's the film that's sparked more controversy than Monica Lewinsky and the JFK assassination put together. Well, Maybe not quite. Nevertheless, Dogma has made equal amounts of people angry and laugh hysterically. And God know why, we're sure! Two fallen angels (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) are searching for a way out of everlasting exile in God-forsaken Wisconsin - and they believe they've found the perfect 'return to paradise' plan: a loophole in church dogma that will allow them to re-enter Heaven if the pass under the blessed arch of a New Jersy cathedral. There's only one major drawback. If they succeed, they'll obliterate human existence and all hell will break loose! Enter a group of humans and supernatural beings on a mission from God to stop the angels any way they can. It's going to be a battle of apocalyptic proportions but by God, they'll do it on a wing and a prayer if they have to!

This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. It’s a must have, so buy it – You will definitely won’t be disappointed. 10/10
And that really says something as he is really quite picky! I love how this film totally highlights every single bad thing about the Catholic church without offending anyone, maybe if Monty Python had done the same thing Life of Brian premieres wouldn't of had protesting nuns outside the theatres! I think the infamous Smith has made a fantastic film here with an even better cast who really understood that he was trying to hint at the future of Catholicism (not exactly Buddy Christ, but you get the picture) and point out that we do mourn religion and not celebrate it. Well worth watching, even if you don't get the religious stuff, Chris Rock, Jay Mewes and Kevin Smith are too funny! More power to Alan Rickman, he had the whole Sheriff of Nottingham thing going again!
I love this movie! It's hilarious and so intriguing. Even though it's a typical teen movie, I recommend it for everyone. It's a great movie for all the family. Don't let the price sway you because it's loved by everyone and can be watched again and aain.
this movie is absolutely hilarious! the first time that I saw it I couldnt not contain my laughter! though, i must admit that the humour is a little bit more for teenagers, and possibly the occasional(male) adult, lol. this is a definatley a film that you want your young childrent to be watching. but is is definatley something that I would reccomend to teenagers! dogma is so good
The problem with Kevin Smith films is that he has built up a loyal fan base who over analyse his fims and therefore give it either 10/10 or 0/10 because there was one little thing that disagreed with. A different sort of comedy that his others, Dogma has a religious theme as God has disappeared and must be found before it's noticed. With all the cameos and characters from other Kevin Smith films, if you're a KS fan you'll either love it or hate it, but if you don't really know if then chances are you'll find this pretty okay.
One of Kevin Smith's worst films, only a fraction better than Chasing Amy and Jersey Girl. Two angels who have long been exiled from heaven try to get back in when they find a loophole that could get them back in at the reopening of a cathedral in New Jersey, meanwhile a woman who works at an abortion clinic and a motley crew of mortals and yet more angel-types fight to stop them. Jay and Silent Bob and Chris Rock's thirteenth apostle are the only saving graces, besides which this would just be an overlong, pretentious mess. Blasphemy can be one of the best forms of humor, but not when it's this boring and flat.
I love this movie! I quote it often in debates which can throw people off citing a Kevin Smith film in arguements on abortion ("A woman's body is her own damn business"-Jay) and faith/religion ("It not about what you have faith in, just that you have faith"-Serendipity or Rufus' explaination on why ideas are better than beliefs because you can change an idea, but changing beliefs is much harder. or Bethany notes on what her friend's [pool boy] said about religion that its like a glass and when you're a child it's easy to fill but as you get older the glass gets bigger and the same amount of liquid doesn't fill it anymore. Or what Bethany says about how when you're little you don't question any of [religion], God's up there and she's always watching you!) I could go on and on about how much I love this movie but anyway, I reccommend this film to anyone and everyone willing to watch it! Even if you don't like it and think it to be some sort of hersey or adbomination to relion all together...I hope it at least makes you think about religion today, and how you feel about your own faith.
What an awesome movie. A must have for your collection. Very famous actors in here that all play wonderful parts and are extremely good at what they do. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock and Linda Fiorentino. And I thought that Alanis Morissete played God, but don't seem to be able to find her name here, so might be someone else. A really good entertaining film.
How can anyone not like this movie? Kevin Smith makes movies for people that want gratuitous everything. He makes it without shame and makes it well. The actors obviously enjoy being there, the story is great, full of contradiction, hypocrisy and plenty of bad behavior. A damn good movie definitely recommended.
This is a great movie, far from a drama though, its a comedy that really takes the piss out of the catholic church, though any opne can enjoy it if thwey have a sense of humourm, it doesnt really attack the church, just pokes a little fun now and then, deifnitly worth a watch
